Jason Fried on Ferrari's Jony Ive-designed EV interior: fresh ideas, but can Ferrari execute?

Jason Fried praises Ferrari's collaboration with Jony Ive on the Luce's interior design, particularly the integration of tactile controls with digital displays. Switches trigger corresponding digital elements, an example of thoughtful interaction design. But Ferrari lacks the organizational cohesion Apple built over decades. Ive's vision will likely be constrained by Ferrari's internal capabilities.

Great car interiors, historically, have been part of complete design narratives where interior and exterior reinforce a unified idea. Fried worries Ferrari cannot deliver that coherence. Ive is a world-class designer working within organizational limits he may not be able to overcome. The real test is not whether the interior is well-designed in isolation, but whether Ferrari can execute the exterior and overall product vision at the same level.
