Dimension closes $800M Fund III to back frontier science and compute, including AI drug discovery and next-gen semiconductors
Jul 21, 2026 with Zavain Dar
Key Points
- Dimension Capital closes $800M Fund III, exceeding its $700M target, bringing total assets under management to $1.6B+ across three funds focused on frontier science, semiconductors, and AI drug discovery.
- The firm backs two divergent AI-drug-discovery models: Chai Discovery sells protein-design tools to pharma as SaaS, while New Limit builds and commercializes its own medicines targeting aging.
- Dar bets AI will unlock previously undruggable protein targets within five to seven years, positioning obesity, aging, and inflammation as redefinable disease categories worth massive drug development.

Dimension Capital has closed its third fund at $800 million, hitting the legal hard cap after going out targeting roughly $700 million. The firm, co-founded by Zavain Dar, Adam, and Don, now manages more than $1.6 billion in assets across three funds: Fund I at $350 million (2022 vintage) and Fund II at $500 million (2025 vintage).
Fund scope
Fund III widens the mandate from the intersection of life sciences and technology to the full frontier of science and compute. That covers next-gen GPUs and CPUs for ML and AI architectures, ML infrastructure, and on the biology side, world models, biotech, and next-generation medicines.
“Fund three really is the frontiers of science and compute — companies touching silicon, next-gen GPUs, CPUs for ML and AI architectures all the way through ML infrastructure, world models, NeoLabs, biotech and next-gen medicines. We co-led Chai Discovery's round with Index and Sequoia and Kleiner last week.”
Portfolio approach
Dar describes a deliberate range of business models rather than a single playbook. Chai Discovery, co-led by Dimension alongside Index, Sequoia, and Kleiner, sells protein structure and drug discovery capabilities as a SaaS product into pharma. New Limit is building similar technology but intends to develop and commercialize its own medicines targeting aging and longevity.
Drug discovery thesis
Dar's core bet is that AI and ML will unlock what he calls the "vast majority of known targets" that have historically been undruggable — proteins that researchers couldn't perturb because they lacked the right molecules, not because they lacked the right targets. In the next five to seven years, he expects companies like Chai to produce tools that can design molecules against those previously inaccessible proteins, while also enabling smarter repurposing of shelved assets against newly understood disease pathways.
On the broader disease landscape, he points to a redefinition of what qualifies as a disease worth treating. Obesity went from being viewed as a behavioral problem to the world's largest drug category. He sees aging, inflammation, and immunology following the same trajectory.
Peptides
Dar is skeptical of the gray-market peptide trend circulating in tech circles, saying he suspects most of the reported benefits are placebo. He wouldn't take unvalidated peptides himself and wouldn't recommend them to friends or family, citing unknown impurities and poorly understood biological mechanisms.
LP communication
Dimension published a letter to its LPs in Q1 2025 titled "What If We're Right," which it later anonymized and shared publicly. Dar frames it as a deliberately optimistic counterpoint to the geopolitical and labor tensions of the moment — an attempt to articulate what these frontier science and compute bets could mean for society if they play out.
