Key Points
- OpenAI's ChatGPT Sites product reached 10 million sites created in under three months, signaling rapid adoption of its no-code web page generator.
- Plugin launches enable Sites to connect live data sources like Google Calendar, transforming static generated pages into dynamic operational tools used by OpenAI's own IT team.
- Sites remains paywalled; OpenAI is exploring ad-supported free access but has not committed, suggesting the company is weighing unit economics before scaling to free-tier users.
Summary
ChatGPT Sites: 10 million sites in under three months
Kath Korevec, product manager for ChatGPT Sites at OpenAI, says the product crossed 10 million sites created in under three months since launch — a figure that appears to have been confirmed on the spot from approved talking points.
What Sites does
Sites lets users generate and publish web pages through ChatGPT, with iterative prompting to adjust design, content, and layout on the fly. Use cases range from internal operational dashboards to personal projects. Korevec describes building a custom family calendar display — a DIY alternative to products like Skylight — by hooking Sites up to Google Calendar via plugins that launched the same day as the conversation.
“10,000,000. Okay. Great. In under three months since launch... Sites are in space. And that's very intentional. Sites are a very collaborative place. You can add editors to your site, co editors, co authors, etcetera. And it's a very rich environment to work in.”
Plugins and Spaces integration
The plugin launch is the product's sharpest near-term development. It opens Sites to live data connections, turning static generated pages into dynamic tools. Sites sit inside OpenAI's Spaces product, and Korevec says deeper cross-referencing between Sites, Pages, and a forthcoming Slides feature is on the roadmap — with the intent that artifacts inside a Space become increasingly interchangeable. Co-editing and co-authoring are already live, and OpenAI's own IT team uses Sites to track global staff locations, weather events, and security logistics in real time.
Pricing and access
Sites is not yet available on free plans. Korevec says OpenAI is still working through infrastructure and pricing, given the product is only three months old. An ad-supported free tier is under consideration, though she stops short of committing to it.
The 10 million figure is the number to hold onto. At that pace, the question is whether OpenAI can extend access to free-tier users without the unit economics collapsing — and the ad-supported model, however tentative, suggests they know the answer probably involves monetising the surface directly.
